Learn Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the stress-reducing practice of training the mind to be quiet by being non-judgementally aware of what is going on in the present moment in order to cultivate peace.
Research shows that Mindfulness Based Therapies are effective for treating a wide variety of psychological conditions including anxiety, depression, PTSD, Trauma, relational and communication issues, and even physical, chronic pain conditions. These therapies have been found, in some cases, to be more effective than traditional cognitive behavioral therapy or pharmaceuticals.
Meditation is not just sitting still and "trying not to have any thoughts." It is a skill that must be learned and practiced, much like weight lifting. Just like you wouldn't go to the gym for the first time and expect to pick up a 200 pound barbell, you shouldn't expect to sit down on the cushion for the first time and meditate for an hour!
I will assist you in creating a sustainable meditation practice that will support you in remaining present in your life, reducing stress and reactionary behaviors, and improve physical and spiritual well-being.
I offer a variety of approaches including one-on-one instruction, group intro to mindfulness courses, and weekly meditation groups all tailored to the needs of the individual or group. My experience includes teaching mindfulness for mental health issues, physical pain, spiritual grounding, performance anxiety, and mindfulness for counselors.
